UFO Lowrider was formed in 1995 and released their self-titled debut CD on the Uranus Records label in 1996. Soon after, this release was played in its entirety by El Paso's KLAQ, the first area band ever to have this distinction. Airplay on KLAQ and Las Cruces' KRUX and KFMR, and Austin's KLBJ; in addition to live performances including a show with classic rockers Molly Hatchet, gained the band a strong following and CD sales.
UFO Lowrider's core is formed by guitarist/vocalist Michael Kolby and percussionist Mark Wright, two already-seasoned musicians who met in Los Angeles and formed the band Decision, releasing two CDs and making the rounds of the southern California scene. After Mark returned to New Mexico to form the successful area band Milky Fly, the concept and material for UFO Lowrider came to life with the addition of bassist Darrin Loken.
Now, after regrouping and writing fresh material for the bands second release "Destroy All Planets", UFO Lowrider is poised for the second wave of their assault on the desert Southwest - and the world.
